Wiki contribution

Instead of adding or editing the text portion of a wikipedia entry, decided to add a photo instead. There's a page on wikipedia that lists entries that need images.

Selected 'body of water' photo as I happen to have photos related to the Andaman Sea. Before the photo can be added to the article, it has to be uploaded to Wiki commons. The down side of this -- you're giving your photo rights away once uploaded.

After a successful upload, there'll be a link generated for the photo and paste it into the article edit box

And the photo (starfish) is a part of the article !

  1. Just shows that there are many ways to contribute to wikipedia depending on what your skill set are. Very cool.

  2. Wow, how great is that?! I mean yes, you give away your rights to the image, but now it's part of the world's biggest free information resource! Which is pretty amazing. So do you have to have taken the photo yourself? Or can you source it from somewhere else (pursuant to copyright) and add it in?
