Up in the Clouds

Storage -

'Cloud storage'. Some people cringe from just hearing the word. In the past year, there has been a few issues with how safe is the cloud and whether our privacy is protected.

I've been using the tech , mainly for storage. Have accounts for both Apple cloud and dropbox. With the Apple cloud it's mainly for my phone backup. With dropbox , I use it mainly to transfer photo to the magazine I volunteer as a photographer.

I wasn't one of the early adopters of cloud. Signed up for it when it has been in the market for a while. Still cautious with the privacy issue but I made sure that whatever I have in the cloud, if it ever gets leaked out in the open, it's nothing embarrassing :) And there's always a possibility that the cloud might cease to exist in the future...and that is why backing up with a physical hard drive is a must !

  1. I am still skeptical about the cloud as well. I have an iCloud account (is that what it's called? I don't really know much about it), but I think I only have about 5 photos on it because I never really did much with it. I have backed up my laptop with an external hard drive, and don't really backup my phone unless I am prompted to when I upgrade to a new model. Perhaps I should start thinking about using the cloud for backing up my phone - I have 3000+ photos on it. I would be awfully sad if I lost some of them.

    1. thought i was the only one with a few thousand photos in the phone ! with the iCloud not all will fit in the free storage so i had to buy extra storage. the thing is, even though my photos are up in the cloud, i still can't bring myself to delete photos in my phone just in case something goes wrong with the cloud. i feel like even with all these tech around, hard drives..icloud..its still easy to lose them ! maybe its time to print the important ones or i might just be paranoid..

  2. I backup my photos on an external hard drive too, including my phone photos. Trying to do my phone more regularly because, I agree, losing them would be sad. That said, I think I have about 700 sitting in it already.

  3. ...thinking about this reminds me of the readings we had about storing information. With regards to our photos it seems we agree with Luchterhand; that digitisation is good for daily use but storing original material needs to be done elsewhere.
